Lesson 2: Angels Flying over St. David's Cathedral

To experience a sense of awe and wonder about angels.
To show care and consideration when listening to the views of others.
To realise that not all questions about angels can be answered.

A copy of "Angels Flying over St. David’s Cathedral by Jackie Morris,
material to record written work.

Plan:

• Recap children’s ideas of angels discussed in previous lesson.
  
• Tell the children to close their eyes and imagine a picture of angels.

  What are your angels doing?
  What do your angels looks like? What are they wearing?
  What expressions do they have on their faces?
  Where have they come from?
  Why have they come?

• Show the painting "Angels flying over St. David’s Cathedral" by Jackie Morris.

  Are these angels like your angels? Why?
  What are the angels doing?
  Can you recognise the building?
  Why do you think the angels are flying over this cathedral?
  What message could they be bringing?
  How does the painting make you feel?

• Write down words which describe how you feel.
  Use these words to help you write a few sentences about the picture.

Other ideas:

• If you were an angel, what message would you like God to give you?
• Write or draw a picture about this.

Plenary:

Reinforce the concept that angels may take different forms and have different roles.
